- We do some background checks to verify there is no abuse history, vet checks and home owner checks. Processing an application takes 3-5 business days. We are not able to process applications during the weekend.
QUESTION: If I am approved does that mean I get the dog I want?
- No. It only means you are approved to adopt a dog with us. There is a chance that there are other applicants for the same dog. If there are multiples that are all equally viable to adopt the dog in question which is more adequate to the dogs needs that will be the one that we will adopt to. An example is if the dog is a runner and the dog needs a fenced backyard and one person has a fenced in backyard and the other does not.
QUESTION: You have an incoming dog and I want it what do I do?
- First and foremost we need an application on file. It has to be approved before anything happens. With an incoming dog we do assessments, vetting that is needed, and go through approved applications to see if we already have an approved applicant that would be appropriate for the dog. Some dogs we get in are already fully vetted and only need a few minor things that are not done with all rescues such as microchip and we automatically deworm upon arrival and will be ready sooner than those that need more care.
QUESTION: What is your process of choosing?
- We assess the dog to find out what quirks, training needs, special needs, or any medical needs they may have. We also need to know if they do well with aggression if they have not already been tested or not. Once we know the dog we will make a decision based on the dog. We will take a non refundable deposits that are good for one week to hold the dog until you come to meet the dog.
QUESTION: Do you ship the dogs?
- No we do not ship the dogs to places. We require that all family member including the fur babies of the home come with to meet the dog. There are very few circumstances that we will travel to you with the dog. The dogs have become comfortable here and will react differently there than they will if we bring them to you.
QUESTION: Do I have to have a fenced in backyard?
- No. We only require a fenced in backyard if the dog specifically requires and needs it.
QUESTION: What does the adoption fee include?
- Our adoption fee includes the spay/neuter of the pet, their shots, microchip, and dewormer.
QUESTION: Does the pet have to be spayed or neutered?
- YES. Absolutely! There is no debate about it. All our pets that are adopted out are spayed and neutered. The only exception is if there is a medical reason as to why they are not.
QUESTION: Are you a non profit?
- Yes we are a 501c3 rescue. Any donations made to our rescue are tax deductible. We take donations through our paypal, we have an amazon wishlist, and we take any checks, cash or cards for donations. We also accept any physical goods that can help with the care of the dogs while they are here.
QUESTION: Why is there an application fee?
- We have had several applicants that have been approved and then either changed their mind, had to check with their spouse, had to ask their parents, couldn't have a dog where they live, were allergic, or whatever other excuses they have had so to ensure that they have checked with landlords, spouses, parents, etc we have put in place an application fee to ensure we are not wasting hundreds of hours processing applications when we could be spending time doing training with the dogs. Plus it costs money for us to run background checks we use the applications fees to cover those costs.
QUESTION: Where are you located?
- We are located in West Michigan
QUESTION: Where do you get all your dogs?
- We get our dogs from other rescues, from shelters, and some owner surrenders.
QUESTION: How often do you feed the dogs?
- We free feed the dogs. Most of the dogs we get are emanciated so we allow them to eat as much as they want so they can gain some of the weight back. If we have a food aggressive dog then we try to feed them three to four times a day until they are a healthy weight then we feed them twice a day.
QUESTION: Where do you keep the dogs when you leave or sleep?
- For the most part the dogs are kept in a kennel when we are gone. They are kept out and with the rest of the house when I am home so they get used to being a house pet. When we go to bed depending on the dog and their habits will depend on where they sleep.
QUESTION: Do you spoil the dogs?
- YES ABSOLUTELY! Most of the dogs we get have been abandoned, relinquished, been a stray for some time, so we do tend to give them lots of love, a little treats, attention that they have not been getting, and they get lots of affection. We make sure they get to the vet and get checked out. We are a little over protective with that. We make sure to microchip so that way if they ever get lost again they can be reunited. They get a coconut oil and peanut butter treat every other day at least for their skin and coats. They get flea and tick and heart worm preventative all year long every month.
- Our adoption fees range from $150-350 per dog. We do give a discount for those that are bonded and need to go as a pair. Adoption fee is based on age/breed/size of the dog.
- Unless for medical reasons we do require your pet to be up to date on vaccinations, fixed, and have regular testing of heart worm. We do go back up to 5 years so getting them up to date just to adopt will not get an approval.
